LIFE LINES
Greetings to everyone, and welcome to the assemblies and Bible study of the Lord’s body that meets in this place. If you are visiting the church here today, we appreciate the fact that you’ve come to worship and study with those who are members of this congregation, and we want to make you feel welcome among God’s people. We are grateful for those who visit with us, and do pray that, first, you benefit from the services today, and, second, that you would want to return and be with us in the future.
********************
With Family Vacation Bible School completed, the new Bible school year begun, and the new curriculum being used in our Sunday morning classes, what’s next? There is always something to look forward to, and now is no exception to that general rule. On August 15th, we will host our second annual Friday Night Sing at the 38th Street building. Many congregations participate in this time of fellowship and praising God in song, and we are privileged to have other members of the church, and guests, join with us in these good activities. Note this date, and plan to be present that evening, if at all possible. Last year’s sing was great, and we can anticipate an inspiring and uplifting time this year. The singing begins at 7:00 P.M.
Let’s enjoy this day that God has given us, and have a great week.
-- Lance
The world renowned contralto, Marian Anderson, was once asked why she always used the first person plural, “we,” instead of a simple “I” when she spoke about herself.
This was her answer: “Possibly,” she said, “because the longer one lives, the more one realizes that there is no particular thing that you can do alone. With the execution of the work that we do there are many people – those who wrote the music, those who made the piano on which the accompanist is playing, the accompanist who lends support to the performances. So the ‘I’ in it is very small indeed.”
She makes a good point.
Perhaps today, or this week, you could spend some time to think about all the people in your past who have had a positive impact on your life over the years. Who are those people?
If you made such a list, would there be any teachers on the list? Any preachers or elders? Your parents, of course, or perhaps an aunt or an uncle?
Would there be any friends on your list? Any coworkers? What about the doctors and nurses who brought you back to healthy living during a crisis?
It is so true: we can’t say that the life we’ve lived, we’ve been able to live it alone. In fact human beings, in comparison to other species of life, require more care at birth than many others.
Let’s give thanks to God for everyone who has helped us, assisted us, along our life’s journey, and ask God to empower us to help others as well.

Family Matters
Prayer List: It was good to see Barb Hunter at both the morning and evening assemblies last Sunday, as she’d been discharged from the hospital the previous week. She was much better after her bout with pneumonia. Jean Howell came through her shoulder surgery well, and was at home recuperating as this past week began. Marlen Thompson was not able to have the procedure to get her heart back in rhythm. Her blood needed thinning before that could be done. As of last Sunday, Marlen thought it might be done in about three weeks. Gladys Heid, Brian’s mother, had another spell with her gallbladder that took her to the hospital emergency room on Friday, the 18th. She was scheduled for her gallbladder surgery on Thursday of this past week, July 24th. Rosemary Hines was in Mercy Medical Center as last week began, needing some adjustments to medication she takes. Emma Brown, the sister-in-law of Anna Masalko, recently had surgery and is now recovering. Gretchen Tripp, Mary Pool’s daughter, is still waiting for her kidney and pancreas transplants, but it appears these are closer to being accomplished, at a hospital in Tampa, Florida. Pray that this will happen soon, and continue to remember Gwen Rose, Rich Stalnaker (Sharon’s husband), Marty Morris, Don Dillehay (Esther Nourse’s brother in Alabama), those with cancer, those in the military service (Dan Garrison, Matt Laubacher, Justin May, David Woofter), those at home and ill, the leadership of the 38th Street church, and our Shut-Ins.
Baptism: We are glad to report that Hayley Gardiner, Diane’s granddaughter, was immersed at the 5th and 6th grade week at camp, on Saturday morning, July 19th. There were a total of five baptisms during that week.
Birth: Lori Hartman, granddaughter of Loretta, delivered a baby boy, Wyatt Aaron, weighing 9 lbs. 4 oz. at Mercy Medical Center on Sunday, July 20th. The baby was 20 ½ inches long. We are glad that both mother and child are doing well.
Thank You: Thank you for your prayers on my behalf. Please keep me in your prayers as I await the procedure on my heart, probably in about three weeks.
Marlen Thompson.
Dear Brethren, Just a note of thanks to all who sent cards, visits and most of all your prayers during my recent knee replacement surgery. It was very much appreciated. I am doing well and hopefully will be out in a little while. Thanks again for all you did.
In Christian Love, Olive Moser.
I’d like to thank you for praying for my brother, Don Dillehay, of Mobile, Alabama. He has been dismissed to a rehab facility and is making slow progress in his recovery. Your concerns and prayers are greatly appreciated. Esther Nourse.

INTEGRITY?
It was the day of the big exam, and the professor handed out the test papers to his students. When time was up, he called for the students to hand the tests back in. As he was grading exams, the professor noticed one of the students had attached a $100 bill to his test with a note saying: “A dollar per point.” At the next class session, the professor handed the tests back out. That student got back his test paper plus $56 change.
