LIFE LINES

Welcome to the services of the 38th Street church today, and a special greeting to those who may be visiting with the Lord’s family here.

This coming Friday evening we will have the opportunity to fellowship with brethren from all over this area as the 38th Street church hosts a “Friday Night Sing” beginning at 7:00 P.M.  Plan to make this a part of your week if at all possible.  As the host congregation, we want to be well-represented among those in attendance.  But, more than that, we need to take advantage of this occasion to praise God in song.

I’m glad you’re here today, and look forward to seeing you on Friday evening.  God bless.

Family Matters

Prayer List:  Continue to pray for members of Brian Heid’s family who are having physical problems at this time.  His mother, Gladys Heid, still anticipates having gallbladder surgery in the near future; his grandfather, Luther Byrd, aged 104, is recovering from a fall; his uncle, Don Perry, is recuperating after having a part of a finger removed as a result of a staph infection.  Teresa Mahaffey was scheduled for surgery (carpel tunnel) at Affinity Medical Center, Doctors Campus, on Thursday of this past week (the 7th).  It appears that, sometime in the future Rich Stalnaker, Sharon’s husband, will also need surgery as a result of the injury he suffered at work.  Gretchen Tripp, Mary Pool’s daughter who lives in Florida, was able to have a kidney transplant done at a hospital in Ft. Myers on Saturday, August 2nd.  She is still waiting for the pancreas transplant, but it was good news that the kidney procedure was accomplished.  Mary reports that so far the kidney is working as it should, and wants to thank everyone for their prayers.  Gretchen’s address is: 2014 Southeast 12th St., Cape Coral, FL 33990Brenda Garvin needs prayer, as her blood pressure level was up recently, and she has difficulty walking because of problems with her legs.  Along with Brenda, pray for Marie Shanabarger (Linda Hopkins’ mother), Gwen Rose, Marty Morris, those with cancer, those at home and ill, those serving in the nation’s armed forces (Dan Garrison, Matt Laubacher, Justin May, David Woofter), our Shut-Ins, and the leadership of the church at 38th Street.

Thank You:  We wanted to say “Thank You” for all the cards and prayer in these last couple of months, on Marty’s behalf.  We were very encouraged with all the positive notes and sincere concern.  We have had a roller coaster ride of emotions, but we are finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.  We feel we have been fortunate with our doctor and medical personnel; they have done what they could to save part of Marty’s foot.  Marty has a long journey ahead of him, but we are making progress.  Once again, thank you, and continue to pray for the healing process and recovery period for the next several months.  God has been so good to us and sometimes we get thrown a curve in our life and I know it just makes us stronger. Sincere thoughts, The Morris Family.

Thanks to all who helped make Homer’s 85th birthday a special day for him.  Your kindness and best wishes were very much appreciated.  Special thanks to Brian, Cathy, and the boys, for working so hard to make the day special!  Mary Lively.

Cookout:  A congregational cookout has been scheduled for Sunday, August 24th, following the morning Bible class period.  Hot dogs, hamburger, buns, and drink will be provided.  Those attending are asked to bring one side dish and a dessert.  There is a sign-up sheet posted on the east-wing bulletin board for this.  Sign up soon so that plans can be completed for this day of good food and fellowship.

Meeting: Today, the 10th, there is an Elders/Deacons/Preachers Meeting at 4:15 P.M.

Singing:  A group will be going to the Canton Christian Home today for a time of singing and fellowship after the evening service.  Everyone is invited to participate.

AbideWithMe.us:  Are you:  an older adult who needs live-in assistance?  A newly-divorced mother of young children needing a reasonably-priced place to live?  A college student trying to get through school without a mountain of debt?  A disabled young adult ready to live away from mom and dad, but still needing assistance?  A new website, AbideWithMe.us, provides a way to bring together people who will mutually benefit from one another’s aid, support, and situations.  People can post their needs and view other listings for free.  Each party pays a small fee when choosing to correspond with each other.  The terms and conditions of each agreement are between the two parties.  The purpose of this website is to provide the means to find each other.

THE EAGLE AND THE WOLF

There is a great battle that rages inside me.  One side is the soaring eagle.  Everything the eagle stands for is good and true and beautiful, and it soars above the clouds.  Even though it dips down into the valleys, it lays its eggs on the mountaintops.
The other side of me is the howling wolf.  And that raging, howling wolf represents the worst that’s in me.  He eats upon my downfalls and justifies himself by his presence in the pack.

WHO WINS THIS GREAT BATTLE?

THE ONE I FEED!
