LIFE LINES

Greetings to everyone on this first day of a new week, and welcome to the assemblies and Bible study of the Lord’s church at 38th Street.  To both our 38th Street family members and our guests we extend our appreciation for your presence today, and for your desire to worship God and to remember His, and His Son’s, love in sacrificing so much for us.

We do have a special guest with us today, and he will be sharing some information about the Potter’s Children’s home and school in Bowling Green, KY, during the Bible study period this morning.  We welcome Byron Henbest, and look forward to hearing about the work that has gone on for so long at Potter.  Byron is no stranger to this area.  He has been coming for many years to collect donations for the home and school.  This is an opportunity to hear of the good those contributions have done over the years.  Let me encourage you to stay for this morning’s presentation during the class time.  The adults and teenagers will remain in the auditorium for this, while our children’s classes, through grade 6, will meet in their usual locations.

Let me also invite you to return for this evening’s service, which begins at 6:00.  We will be discussing the second in a series of lessons on the much-misunderstood book of “Revelation.”  What is the truth about this last book of the Bible?  I don’t claim inspired knowledge, just as no one else can make such a claim, today.  We cannot know what all the symbols stand for, and all the figurative language means, in this New Testament book of prophecy.  But, what we can assert is the message God meant to convey, first to the early church, then to the church of today.  These lessons will allow us to examine carefully what that message was and is, and to know that God is in control and that He will triumph, indeed has triumphed, over Satan and evil.

Look at this, also, as another opportunity to invite people to attend with you.  There is a general interest in the Revelation, and people need to hear the truth about this part of God’s word to all mankind, and, especially, to His saints.

This past Tuesday, November 11th, was the annual observation of “Veterans Day.”  To all those who served, or are serving, in the nation’s armed forces, we say “Thank You” for that service and for the preservation of freedom in this land and in other parts of the world.

To everyone, have a great week, and God bless.

Family Matters

Prayer List:  Joanne Littlefield was able to return home from the hospital during the week before this last so that, once more, no one from the congregation was in the hospital at the start of this past week.  John Poulos, Georgia Daverio’s father, was still at Aultman Hospital as last week began, still due to have stents put in to alleviate problems of blockages in arteries.  Both Ron Litman and Marge Block remained in care facilities, and Marge had been stricken with Bell’s palsy.  Also, we extend our sympathy to her on the death of a sister.  Cheryl Burfield was at home with pneumonia, and, at the start of last week, it was uncertain whether she might have to be hospitalized.  Sammie Morgan, the grandson of Karen Smith, has recently had polyps removed from his stomach.  These were to be biopsied, but no results were known at the time of this writing.  Bill Hartman, Loretta’s son, was scheduled for back surgery this past Wednesday.  He lives in the Johnstown, PA area.  Brenda Garvin came at the time of the invitation last Sunday morning asking for prayer as she still struggles with both physical and spiritual matters.  On Sunday evening last week, Bill Craddock, visiting at 38th Street, indicated that his and Vee’s granddaughter, Kaci, was continuing to do well and growing.  The baby still must remain at home, as her immune system is not well enough developed to be in crowds of people.  Pray for Kaci’s continued progress, as well as for Betty Hamilton (Alzheimer’s), Sue Hughes (still recuperating from her recent fall), John McCallister (Melissa Burfield’s father, recently diagnosed with prostate cancer), all those with cancer, those at home and ill, our Shut-Ins, those serving in the nation’s armed forces, and the leadership, ministries, and continued growth of the 38th Street church.

Thank You:  I would like to thank everyone for the cards and calls I have received.  Anna Masalko.

Luncheon:  Today there will be a buffet luncheon served in the multi-purpose room as a benefit to raise funds to help with the medical bills incurred at the time Scott and Tiffany Craddock’s baby, Kaci, was born.  This luncheon is being prepared as a private event, NOT by the 38th Street church.  The cost is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children ages 3-12.  Tickets may be purchased at the door. The luncheon times are 11:30 A.M. until 1:30 P.M.

Annual Holiday Dinner:  This year’s dinner will be next Sunday, November 23rd.  Sign up if you are attending, providing a ham, and/or bringing a dessert.  The cost is $2.00 per person and you can give that to Hope Camarata, Joan Cook, or Dorothy Sefert.  Children 5 and under are free.  Services that evening will begin at 5:00 P.M. – with the dinner at 6:00 P.M. Each family is asked to bring a 2 liter bottle of pop.

Evangelism Team:  There will be a meeting at Ray and Nita Hunt’s house on Monday, November 17th, at 7:00 P.M.  Bring finger foods; this meeting is for everyone, but especially for those who took part in the recent Evangelism class.

Power For Today:  If you would like to renew your subscription for next year, let Kathy Kruger know.  The cost is $7.80 for the year and must be received before the order is processed.  The deadline for ordering is December 1st.

Ladies:   We will be traveling to Medina, once again, to visit Miss Molly’s Tea Room on Saturday, December 6th.  We would love to have you join us to enjoy the holiday decorations, fellowship, and wonderful food.  Our lunch reservations are for 2:30 P.M., so plan to make the trip with us.  Please sign up and mark your menu choice on the women’s bulletin board by November 19th.  Please turn your money in to Sonya Ash also by November 19th.  If you would like to ride in the church van, make sure to sign the transportation list on the ladies’ board as well.

Firewood Available:  Wes Wyatt has a large amount of firewood available for anyone who might want it for this coming winter season.  If you are interested in obtaining some of this wood, contact Wes.

2009 Contribution Envelopes:   The envelopes are now on the table in the foyer.  Please put your name beside the number of the box you take.

Young-In-Heart:  Your next meeting will be on Thursday, November 20th, at 10:30 A.M.

NEWS: *We have preschool openings for children ages 3 and 4, half day or full day, 2-3 days a week.  Please call 330-454-3737.  * Save your General Mills Box Tops and Tyson Labels and send them to the school.  We receive $0.10 for the Box Tops and $0.24 for the Tyson labels.  * Do you need colored copies made?  SCCA can make your copies for you for $0.35 a copy.  This is less than ½ price of most places.  Let us know if we can help. * SCCA is planning a big “Parking Lot Sale” in the spring.  Consider collecting items to donate for our sale.
