LIFE LINES
Welcome, everyone, to a new week in a new year. I pray your year has gotten off to a good start. To our visitors we wish to extend a special greeting and a warm welcome to our services today.
To start this new year, I want to share with you this poem. Let’s make this a great year at 38th Street as we, together, serve our great God and His Son, our Savior.
Have a good day and a great week. God bless.
-- LANCE
******************************************
The new year is a door
By which we reach new fields
Of service for God and fellow man:
A door by which we can explore
Wide spheres of usefulness
Our world to bless,
And reap the sheaves God’s word yields.
The new year is a task
Set by the Master of our souls,
A little part of our life’s work below:
And so we ask holy wisdom which alone
controls
Our labor, teaching what and where to
sow:
That the year, at its end,
May show God’s glory and man’s profit
blend.
The new year is a book
With many pages, and as yet all white
On which to write
The history of thought, and deed, and word
In this new group of days.
We pray thee, Lord,
As thou shalt look upon the book,
When written, may all be to Thy praise.
Family Matters
Prayer List: Ray Hunt was admitted to Mercy Medical Center early on Saturday, December 27th, and underwent gallbladder surgery the next day. As of this writing, he remained hospitalized, recuperating after that operation. Also in area hospitals as this past week began were Hobert Littlefield and Gwen Rose, at Aultman Hospital, and Carla Duffield, Carl Earley’s daughter, at Affinity Medical Center in Massillon. Bonnie Day, Ellen’s daughter-in-law, had been transferred to the Cleveland Clinic on Saturday, December 27th, to await surgery for the removal of her pancreas. Marlene Lopez, Winnie German’s sister and Earl Ash’s aunt, remained hospitalized in Virginia. After going to the hospital with a heart attack, Marlene suffered a stroke and, possibly another heart attack. The family was still anticipating heart by-pass surgery for her as last week started. Lucille Harless, Kathy Kruger’s mother, was admitted to the hospital in Weirton, WV, last Monday morning with pneumonia and flu-like symptoms. Barb Hunter had a scheduled appointment with a neurologist on Wednesday of last week, and is to go to the Cleveland Clinic for a consultation with a neurosurgeon on January 15th. Mark Daverio requests prayers for his brother-in-law, Marc Clendenin, whose heart stopped on the night of December 25th. He was admitted to Mercy Medical Center, and placed in the intensive care unit, gravely ill. He and his wife, Mary Lou, need our continued prayers, as does Ed and Barb Ramsier. Ed continues to have health problems (specifically an infection in a toe) and is weak. Among those diagnosed with cancer (Roland Koch; Karen Morgan and others), add Janet Hadden’s brother-in-law, Junior Hadden. He became very ill about a month ago and has since been diagnosed with lymphoma. He was to start chemotherapy treatments on Monday of last week, but he is already very weak. His wife, Jan, is in a nursing home, unable to care for herself. That whole family needs our prayers, as does our Shut-Ins, others at home and ill, those serving in the military, and the leadership of the 38th Street Church.
Birth: We rejoice at the birth of a baby girl, Parker, to Ryan and Jessica Morris on Thursday, December 25th, at Aultman Hospital. Born prematurely, the baby weighed 4 pounds, 4 ounces, but at the start of last week, was doing well in the neo-natal intensive care unit. Congratulations to Ryan and Jessica, and to grandparents Darlene and Marty Morris.
Thank You: Thank you so much for the cards, prayers, flowers, and the very nice luncheon you provided after Jim’s funeral. Your kind expression of sympathy was deeply appreciated. The family of Jim Marginean.
To my friends at 38th Street, Thank you so much for the delicious cookies and candy and the wonderful basket of fruit. My friends and I are really enjoying them. Love and Best Wishes, Mildred Myers.
Congratulations: Josh Heid graduated from the University of Akron with his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Network Administration. We congratulate him on this achievement in his life and wish him well!
Tape Ministry: Because we can no longer get the inexpensive cassette tapes we use to duplicate sermons, and our supply of the tapes we had is almost exhausted, we will no longer offer the lessons on tape as we have for many years. This past Sunday, December 28th, was the last for such taping and duplication. It is hoped that, in the future, we can offer sermons on CDs, but, for now, this ministry is at an end. Those who had requested tapes of recent lessons can pick these up in the church office area. They will be on the desk in the room directly across from Kathy Kruger’s office.
Young-In-Heart: Just a reminder to all of our senior members, the next regular meeting of Young-In-Heart will be Thursday, January 15th, at 10:30 A.M. at the building. We will resuming the study of Paul’s letter to the Christians at Rome, at Chapter 3 and verse 1, and have our usual good time of fellowship. Following the meeting, the group will go to an area restaurant for lunch. Resolve in 2009 to make Young-In-Heart a part of your regular schedule. The group meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month.
Snow Watch: In the event of bad weather, please be cautious as you travel, and do not take risks. If in doubt as to whether services have
been canceled, listen to 101.7 on
the radio and on your television Fox 8 (Cleveland).
2009 Ladies’ Retreat: It is time to be planning for the Annual Ladies’ Retreat, which will be at the Carlisle Inn in Sugarcreek, on March 6th and 7th.
TEACHERS NEEDED: There is a need for a teacher for grades 1-3 on Sunday morning, and also for the Toddlers’ class on Sunday, as well. If you can help, see Stephen Lindenberger as soon as possible.
