Family Matters
Prayer List: Ron Litman did have his scheduled surgery on Friday, January 23rd, and was transferred to The Laurels, in Massillon, on Tuesday of last week. Jeff Thompson is doing well in his recovery from heart bypass surgery (it was great to have him at last Sunday morning’s assembly and Bible study). Kayden Mahaffey, age 2, suffered a stroke, which complicates the already serious situation with his heart. Melissa Cartledge, one of our newest members. recently had a biopsy done. Lorraine Hunt fell once again. She continues to need our prayers, as do: Bonnie Day and Beth Ann Gibson (the daughter-in-law and niece of Ellen Day), Marlene Lopez (Winnie German’s sister, who has made some improvement and may soon have her heart bypass surgery), those with cancer, those home and ill, those serving in the military, the leadership of the 38th Street church, and our Shut-Ins.
Baptisms: Two precious souls were added to the Lord’s church on Monday evening, January 19th, after studying with Earl Ash . . . Ashley Krider, 5069 Quail Hill St. NW, Apt. H, N. Canton OH 44720 (330-324-4755) and Cory Schweigert, 1420-B Neptune Ave., Akron, Ohio 44301 (330-475-6422). We welcome them to the family here at 38th Street.
Placing Membership: Donald and Melissa Cartledge came at the invitation on Sunday morning, January 18th, and made known their desire to be restored and to place membership with the congregation that meets here. They come to us from Ft. Myers, Florida, with their two grandchildren, Ziya and Bryant Crowley. Their address is: 1230 10th Street NW, Canton OH 44703 (330-456-0633). We are grateful for their decision to worship with us.
Thank You: To the 38th Street Congregation: A heartfelt “Thank You” for the prayers during a long period of joint replacement surgeries and the long rehab process that followed. A special thanks for the gift and kind thoughts of the Wednesday Evening Bible School class. Also, a special thanks to Lance for his hospital visits. God bless you all as Carla continues with her final hip replacement surgery in March. Carl Earley and family.

Help Needed: Volunteers are needed for Children’s Bible Time (during worship) for the months of June, July, August, and September. If you can help, see Stephen Lindenberger.
Also, Shirley McGill is looking for Nursery Staff for the following time slots:

Special Collection: There will be an additional collection taken Sunday, Feb. 8th, for the church’s Christian Assistance Fund. This fund has helped many brothers and sisters in Christ, here at 38th Street and elsewhere, over the years. Prayerfully consider giving to its support, in addition to your regular weekly contribution.
Snow Watch: In the event of bad weather, please be cautious as you travel, and do not take risks. If in
doubt as to whether services have
been canceled, listen to 101.7 on the radio and on your television Fox 8 (Cleveland).
Christian Training School 2009: Pre-registration is underway for this year’s school, which begins on February 9th and runs through March 9th. Get your brochure and register now for a class for 5 Monday evenings of learning. Registration cards and brochures can be found on the table in the foyer.
S.C.C.A. NEWS: After much prayer and soul searching, we’ve come to the decision that this will be our final school year (2008-2009). This has been a very hard decision, but we feel that God has led us in this direction. The last 3 years we have had to struggle to get the bare minimum number of students that are needed to keep our state charter. Finances have been a major struggle to keep afloat and the economy doesn’t help. For many years we have been to the bare minimum of staff. These are just a few of the major reasons we feel like we cannot continue next year. June 4th will be our last day of school.
We have touched hundreds of lives for the past 32 years and we know God is pleased! We hope to continue to touch lives, even though it is not done in a direct way. Please pray for us as we continue through this year. Thank you for all the help you have given us to touch lives! Ellie Burfield.
VACATION: Thinking about vacation? How about taking a vacation that will help you grow stronger in the Lord? Each year NOCYC has a “Family Camp” in late July, early August. This year’s Family Camp will be July 26th through July 31st, at the camp in Lisbon. This is a great time of learning, fellowship and fun. Please consider this as you plan your vacation in 2009. Ladies . . . you do not have to cook all week! There are flyers in the foyer; you can ask Stephen Lindenberger or Earl Ash any specific questions you may have. Come join us and be renewed!
2009 Ladies’ Retreat: It is time to be planning for the Annual Ladies’ Retreat, which will be at the Carlisle Inn in Sugarcreek, on March 6th and 7th.
NOCYC NEWS: There will be a winter fund raising dinner on February 28, 2009 at the North Canton Church of Christ building. Ohio Valley University Ambassadors will also be performing for our entertainment. We NEED your help. Please plan on joining us for good food, fun, and fellowship and welcoming another year of Christian camping. Contact Rod Stockdale at 330.499.4303 for ticket information or more details.

Lead Someone To Christ
There are people in our lives that are very special to us. It may be a co-worker, neighbor or perhaps a child or mate that we have approached about their souls, but have never gotten them into a study of God’s word. We are asking that you consider those people and pray specifically for them in the coming days and weeks.
It has often been our experience with Bible studies that someone who is not as close to the relationship can often reach those who are dearest to us where we may have failed.
We are asking that, as you consider these people, you write down their names, addresses and phone numbers and give them to Earl Ash.
We have a team of people in place that will make contact with them in the coming weeks and months in an attempt to initiate a study of God’s word.
