LIFE LINES

Welcome everyone, to the Lord’s church on 38th Street, on this first Sunday of March.  To both members and guests we offer a cordial greeting and, to our visitors especially, we say we are grateful you’ve chosen to come and assemble with the Lord’s body here, today.

The winter weather has not been kind to Young-In-Heart.  The cold, snow, and ice have hindered many from being able to attend the year’s first meetings of the group of senior saints.  The next scheduled meeting is this Thursday, March 5th, at 10:30 A.M. at the 38th Street building.  With, hopefully, better weather and the start of a new Bible study, of the book of “Ephesians,” I look forward to seeing more Young-In-Heart members at this Thursday’s gathering.  This is a great time of fellowship and spiritual growth, and I pray that as many of our senior members as are able can attend this, and all of the meetings.  A new month, better weather, a new study.  What a good time to get started, or get started back, with Young-In-Heart, on each first and third Thursdays of the month.  See you on Thursday.

***********************************************

A new series of lessons will begin on Sunday evening, March 8th.  It is titled “BeholdThe Lamb of God,” and it explores the uniqueness and believability of Jesus as the promised Messiah to the Jews, and as the Savior of the world.  There are six lessons in the series, taught by Kyle Butt and Eric Lyons, and they will go through the evening of April 12th.  The first lesson, “The Historicity of Jesus” will be shown, and discussed, on March 8th.  Please take advantage of these lessons and be a part of the Sunday evening assemblies.

Family Matters

Prayer List:  As this past week began, Karen Morgan remained at Aultman Hospital, being treated for pancreatic cancer.  Anna Masalko was released after a brief stay at Mercy Medical Center, and Jody Dimit was unable to have her scheduled gallbladder surgery.  She was to have some testing done after an irregularity showed up on an EKG.  Ed Ramsier had to have a toe amputated, on Wednesday, February 18th, because of complications from his diabetes.  He is still battling numerous health problems, and Sharon Saunier was scheduled to have bladder surgery on Friday of this past week, at Akron General.  Cody Morgan, a grandson of Karen Smith, is having problems with a shoulder, and has undergone some testing to see what needs to be done for this.  Others who are in need of prayer are:  Tom Hall (Mary Lively’s nephew); Bonnie Day (Ellen’s daughter-in-law); Marlene Lopez (Winnie German’s sister); Howard Shaffer (the brother of Joyce Asher); Beth Gibson (Ellen Day’s niece); John Stevens and his family (an uncle of Brenda Garvin).  Remember, also, our Shut-Ins, those ill and at home, those with cancer, those in military service, and the leadership of the 38th Street church.

Deaths:  Our sympathy, and sincere condolences, go to the family and friends of those who have recently passed from this life.
            >  John Howell, a brother of Howard and Kathy McMichael’s uncle, died in West Virginia the week before this last.  The funeral service for him was on Friday, February 13th.  An address for Howard and Jean is posted on the east-wing bulletin board.
            >   Nelda Houck, Harvey Thornberry’s sister, died on Saturday morning, February 21st, at the Hanover House near Massillon, where she had resided for some time.  Her death came after she had fallen and hit her head, causing her to slip into a coma.  The funeral service for her was conducted at Massillon this past Tuesday morning.
            >   Don Miller, a brother of Leonard’s, also passed away and was remembered at a service on Saturday, February 21st.

NOTEIn an effort to realign our zone ministry, we are looking for an individual or individuals who would be willing to come to the building and locate members’ homes on a map for us.  If you are willing to spend a few hours helping with that, please contact the office.

Teacher NeededA teacher is needed for the Kindergarten class on Wednesday evening.  See Stephen Lindenberger if you can help.

From the Food Ministry Folks:  At the present time, there is no longer a need for plastic bags; however, you may continue to bring in paper bags, as they are still needed.

Young-In-Heart:  Thursday, March 5th, at 10:30 A.M.

Ladies’ Retreat:  Carlisle Inn at Sugarcreek, Friday and Saturday, March 6th and 7th.

Snow Watch: In the event of bad weather, please be cautious as you travel, and do not take risks.  If in doubt as to whether services have been canceled, listen to 101.7 on the radio and on your television Fox 8 (Cleveland).

Message from OVUDear Brethren:  Today, there are many noble causes to support, and we all get requests from those institutions and organizations regularly.  Indeed, one of those noble causes is Christian education and providing support for those young people who may not be able to obtain a college degree without the generosity of others like you.  I also want you to know that OVU has had a generous donor couple that have been supportive of the Ohio Valley University for the past several years and have made a gift that will match dollar-for-dollar any new supporter’s money up to $250,000 per year.  Because of the generosity of that donor and you, your gift this past year has had double the impact.  The “Golden Anniversary Campaign” has exceeded more than half of its goal with almost $8 million committed in cash and pledges.  Again, thank you for your commitment and belief in Ohio Valley University.  I want you to know that your support makes a difference in the lives of our students. For Christian Education, Don Lallathin.
*** Contributions may be sent to the University or given to Earl Ash, a steering committee member. ***

Potter Children’s Home Commodities Outreach:  A representative from the home will be here the week of April 26th.  The following is a list of those items needed from 38th Street.  Please consider helping.   Cash donations are also accepted for perishable
items. (List was not available at the time this issue was uploaded.)

FISHERS OF MEN

Starting Monday, April 6th, the Massillon church of Christ will be hosting a Fishers of Men class.  Brother Timothy Wilkes, director of the program, will be teaching those sessions that will continue through June.
Those who are familiar with this program know what a great resource it is to save souls.  It is also an opportunity for individuals to learn a new method for, and become comfortable with, teaching the lost.
We want to invite all interested individuals from your congregation to participate in this program.  Those interested and want to participate are encouraged to contact your office for an enrollment form.  I would like to have your response by the end of February.
