LIFE LINES

Greetings, and welcome to the service of the church on 38th Street on this Lord’s Day.  To both members and guests we offer a sincere welcome and pray that you will enjoy, and benefit from, the assemblies and Bible study classes today.

******************************

Last week, I mentioned the start of a series of video lessons with the general theme, “Behold! The Lamb of God.”  This evening, and for the following five Sunday evenings, we will view six presentations centered on Jesus.  Was He a unique Savior, or just another man?  Did He speak truth, or lies?  Was He the Son of God, or another fraudulent false prophet?  These, and other, questions will be addressed in this series, taught by Kyle Butt and Eric Lyons.  This evening, we will consider “The Historicity of Jesus,” and, next week, on March 15th, the “Uniqueness of Christ.”  This will be a great group of lessons, and I do pray you can be here for all six presentations.  More than that, bring someone else with you to learn the truth about Jesus and His mission as the Savior of the world.

The following information comes from the evangelism ministry team, and challenges the family at 38th Street to meet, and surpass, a very attainable goal for reaching people with the gospel message in 2009.  With all of our help, we can do this and much more.
God bless us all as we serve Him in His kingdom.

15 Souls in 2009

The Evangelism Ministry Group has set a goal of 15 new converts to the church at 38th Street for 2009.  We feel that this is an attainable goal and, with some effort by each member, we can not only meet, but exceed it.
You will notice in the back of the auditorium that we have placed a barometer of our progress.  This will be updated with each new convert.  As of this writing, two precious souls have been added to the body of Christ here this year.
It is up to each of us to approach our friends, neighbors, and families and begin those critical conversations that can lead to a study of the word of God and obedience to His will.
You have been asked to provide some contacts.  We are seeking to follow up on each of these and each of us is to have a role in making these contacts.  It is not the purpose of the ministry  to make these contacts; it is up to all of us.  You CAN be a soul winner!  Won’t it be wonderful to see us grow and know that you have had a part in leading someone to Christ?  Check this barometer often and ask yourself what role you are playing in the growth of the Kingdom.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  Amen.
Matthew 28:19-20

Family Matters

Prayer List:   Sharon Saunier had her scheduled outpatient surgery at Akron General Medical Center on Friday, February 27th.  This was a second surgery to help her with bladder problems.  Those hospitalized at the start of last week were all at Aultman:  Karen Morgan (receiving treatments for pancreatic cancer); Bonnie Day (Ellen’s daughter-in-law); Paul Huth (Norma’s husband, who had developed pneumonia).  Marlene Lopez, Winnie German’s sister, did have a surgery recently, where two stents were inserted for her heart problem.  It was thought she could have additional surgery this past week as well.  Ed Ramsier continues recuperating from his recent toe amputation.  Ed has other health problems, related to his diabetes.  Carl Earley’s granddaughter, Julie Shaffer, is scheduled for spinal surgery on Wednesday of this week, at Affinity Medical Center.  Cody Morgan, a grandson of Karen Smith, was diagnosed with cancer in his shoulder.  He is to receive treatments at Akron Children’s Hospital.  Pray for him and all those with cancer, and remember Tom Hall (Mary Lively’s nephew); Beth Gibson (a niece of Ellen Day); Howard Shaffer (the brother of Joyce Asher); all those who are at home and ill; the leadership of the 38th Street church; those in military service; and, our Shut-Ins.  And, pray for John Day (Ellen’s son) also, as he continues to have health problems.

Response:    Last Sunday morning (March 1st), Melissa Cartledge came at the time of the invitation asking for the prayers of her spiritual family.  Melissa said she is struggling at present with some matters in her life, especially involving her grandson.  Pray that she can say the right things, and be a proper example, for her grandson’s well-being.  Melissa and her husband, Don, are among the 38th Street family’s newest members.

Death:  We extend our sympathy to Brian and Marita Simon  and their family on the passing of Brian’s father, John Simon, on Saturday, February 28th.   His funeral service was Thursday, March 5th, in Canal Fulton.
