LIFE LINES

To everyone present today we offer a warm welcome to the services and Bible study of the 38th Street church.  And, along with our guests, we want to give a special greeting to all of the mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers present today.
Since May of 1914, the United States has had a national holiday designated as “Mother’s Day.”  It is to give recognition, and honor, to those self-sacrificing, loving individuals we call mothers.  Today we thank mothers for the blessing they are to their families.  May God bless all of our 38th Street mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers.
To everyone we say have a great day and week, and God bless.

WHICH MOTHER’S DAY?”

They say TODAY is Mother’s Day
It is – and so was yesterday.
And days and days and days before –
Since first that little child she bore.
Tomorrow too will be her day,
If God so wills that she should stay
To grace the place we yet call HOME,
Though long since, now we’ve made our own.

How shall we say, one day a year,
‘Tis Mother’s Day – let’s give her cheer,”
And then forget the other days
Deserving more perchance, our praise?
From our abundant love we shower
Our kisses, candies, words, and flowers,
Then settle back, as if to say,
That’s that, until next Mother’s Day.

Ah! Futile humans that we are!
We mean so well, we miss so far!
Too full of fashion, style – we sway
To single out ONE Mother’s Day
Let those who wish reserve their praise,
And honors for some special days;
But, I, in heart, in word, and way
Would make each day a Mother’s Day.

IT IS HER DAY – and everyday –
Let’s not forget her when we pray.
Let’s thank our God who reigns above
For such a precious mother’s love.
Let’s ask Him yet to guide her hand,
To ease her load where’er He can,
By His good will direct her ways
Through more and happier Mother’s Days.

“RESISTANCE”

Noun 1. The act or an instance of resisting or the capacity to resist.  2. A force that tends to oppose or retard motion.  Adjective 1.  impervious to being affected.  2.  disposed or engaged in defiance of established authority, synonym:  insubordinate.

We live in a time where much is changing, and it is changing very quickly.  Our human nature tends to resist change, always wanting the status quo even though we complain about the fact that things aren’t improving.  In the last 20 years, the computer has become a primary tool in schools and offices.  It has replaced the pen and paper of days gone by for generating all documents, as well as written communications.  And yet, some still resist using it.

The cell phone, too, has become a primary tool, both in the business world and for personal use, as a way to keep in touch, be reached, or track someone down.  And yet there are still many who resist using a cell phone.

The computer (including e-mail) and cell phones are both great tools, and while those who refuse to use them are only making things harder for themselves and those around them, there is nothing really wrong with resistance to using them.  There are, however, areas where resistance becomes sinful.  Our Lord tells us that we have a specific mission to accomplish and that He has given us the tools and the ability to accomplish that mission.  He tells us, too, that He will be with us as we go out to do His work, yet many still resist and refuse.  Those people retard the motion of the church, are disaffected by the challenge as well as to the One who commands it be done.

Brethren, be certain of one thing, we have a mission, we have the tools, and we will be held responsible for our resistance to, and defiance of, our mission.

Matthew 28:19:  “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
