LIFE LINES

Greetings to everyone as we enter into times of worship and study on this first day of a new week.  If you are visiting with the church here, we are especially grateful for your presence, and offer to you a cordial welcome.
As we conclude the month of May, we stand at the start of the summer season, and look forward to all of the varied activities this time of year offers to us.  Traditionally, it is a time of vacationing and enjoying more leisure time and outdoor activities.  There are gatherings that are unique to the season, like family reunions or festivals of various kinds.  But, no matter what the season, there are still constants in life, those things that must be attended to, and given priority all year long.  Among these is our worship to God and our study of His word.  While we enjoy these summer months and activities, let us not forget that we are children of the Most High God, and we are obliged to obey His commands every day of every year of our lives.
We must also, collectively, not neglect the growth of God’s kingdom.  The gospel should go with us everywhere, always.  Here at 38th Street, our emphasis upon evangelism knows no “break”, nor “vacation.”  We must continue the work of teaching so that God can bring the increase in His family.
Here is another of the articles on evangelism that have appeared in this bulletin throughout 2009.  It serves as a reminder to us that God’s work has no end point, except when we leave this world.
Have a great day, a great week, and God bless.

The Fellowship In Heaven

We should value our souls because of the wonderful fellowship of heaven.  Even though the way to heaven is narrow and the gate is small, “. . . and there are few who find it.”  (Matt. 7:14), there will still be a large number of souls in heaven (Rev. 7:9).  This will be the multitude of the saved from all ages.
All the Old Testament worthies will be there.  These will include the faithful listed in the Hebrews 11 “Hall of Fame”, such as Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Sarah.  Moses and Elijah will be there.  David, Daniel, Samuel, and Rahab will be there.  All of these died long before Jesus paid the price of redemption on the cross; nevertheless, because of their faith, they received forgiveness retrospectively when Jesus died (Romans 3:25; Hebrews 9:15).
All who have been faithful to Jesus under the New Covenant will also be there (Revelation 2:10).  As they responded to Jesus, their filthy rags of sin and self-righteousness were washed clean in the blood of the Lamb  (Revelation 7:14).
Unaccountable souls, including children, will be there (Matthew 18:3).  All babies dying in infancy, in childbirth, and even in the womb, will be welcomed into the arms of Jesus (Matthew 19:13-15).
Above all, and this is what makes heaven the place of joy that it is, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit will be there.  In John 14:1-3, Jesus said that He was going to prepare a place for His people to be where He is.  In Revelation 21:23, the Bible says that heaven does not need the light of Sun or Moon because it is illuminated by the glory of God and the Lamb.
Wouldn’t you like to be in that kind of company?  Imagine the everlasting joy, the loving fellowship, the peace, happiness and blessedness of being in the most beautiful place of all, in the best company in the universe, with God lavishing His blessing upon you for all eternity!  It would be unthinkable to miss out on such a destiny.  Shouldn’t we encourage others to be there also?
